Brendan Rodgers should sign Adnan Januzaj

Brendan Rodgers football news

Football News: The Manchester United player is the ideal replacement for Patrick Roberts at Celtic if the Bhoys could somehow secure a deal.

The best transfer deals are not always the easiest to negotiate, but with Celtic loanee Patrick Robers leaving the club this summer after two impressive campaigns, Bhoys boss Brendan Rodgers has a big gap to fill.

Step forward Adnan Januzaj, whose almost instant rise to super-stardom has been followed by a prolonged fall from grace.

The young Belgian burst onto the scene at Manchester United under the stewardship of David Moyes. However the managerial tenures of Louis van Gaal and (so far at least) Jose Mourinho have not been kind to the attacker, with any magic he showed erased with a string of below-par performances.

That said, Celtic would be wise to make a move for a player whose innate talent is undeniable.  There were glimpses of Lionel Messi in the way Januzaj caressed the ball and went past opponents during his first season under Moyes.

In fact, with four goals, six assists and a string of electrifying performances, he was one of the only United players to end the 2013/14 season with their head held high.

Struggling at the wrong end of the Premier League during a loan stint at Sunderland has done nothing to help Januzaj’s confidence and it remains to be seen what Mourinho has in store for the right winger this summer.

He may give him one last chance to impress, with pre-season likely to be make-or-break, or he could simply decide to cash in on a player who has struggled to live up to the reputation his own outstanding performances quickly created.

Roberts played a vital role for Celtic and under Rodgers, Januzaj could do the same.

In fact, if Celtic could convince United to do a deal – either on loan or permanently – it could go down as one of Rodgers’ savviest yet.  Because when he is on fire, Januzaj is one of the most exciting attacking prospects in the country and he could take the Scottish Premiership by storm.
