Paul Ifill expected Ernie Merrick to resign

Football News – Former Wellington Phoenix striker Paul Ifill believes Ernie Merrick’s resignation isn’t a great surprise.

The club is searching for a new coach, with Merrick calling it quits in the wake of a 2-nil defeat to Adelaide United which has left the Phoenix bottom of the A-League.

Ifill said the style of play had improved since Ricki Herbert’s days but not the results.

He said it’s a business, and fans want to be able to look at league tables and see their team above their rivals.
