Xevi Pujolar joins Sauber Formula 1 team
Sauber has appointed Xevi Pujolar, who worked alongside Max Verstappen during his time at Formula 1 rival Toro Rosso, as head of track engineering.
The position has been vacant since Tim Malyon left the Swiss outfit in April, just three months after replacing Giampaolo Dall’Ara.
Pujolar began work at Sauber’s base at Hinwill after F1’s summer shutdown came to an end.
Sauber says the 43-year-old’s first race will be the Singapore Grand Prix, which takes place next month.
Pujolar worked as Bruno Senna’s race engineer at Hispania and fulfilled the same role for Pastor Maldonado at Williams before being promoted to chief race engineer.
He moved to Toro Rosso in 2013, holding the role of senior race engineer, and worked with Jean-Eric Vergne and then Verstappen.
Paul Russell, who held the role of chief race engineer on an interim basis following Malyon’s departure, returns to his position as head of performance integration.
Sauber is in a period of restructuring after its future was assured when new investors came on board last month.
The Swiss team is currently working to fill the role of technical director, which was vacated by Mark Smith on the eve of the season.
