Cody Garbrandt to Dillashaw: he can’t sell PPV’s
MMA Update: TJ Dillashaw will most likely get first crack at trying to dethrone Cody Garbrandt from the top of the Bantamweight mountain after “No Love” took out Dominick Cruz at UFC 207 to win Ultimate Fighting Championship’s (UFC) 135-pound strap (highlights).
That said, “No Love” isn’t exactly thrilled at the prospect of fighting “Viper” because he won’t do much to fatten his pockets.
“Like I said, I went for the title shot…it was a two man race. Really it was just about getting paid, getting a contract, is why T.J. squeezed back in,” said Cody during a recent appearance on The MMA Hour via MMA Fighting.
“You know, he was selling peanut butter, and anteing up $100,000 to bribe Cruz into a title shot. Dude, I don’t want to even speak on Dillashaw. He doesn’t even draw pay-per-view buys. It’s not even a fight that makes sense from that standpoint.”
As far as Cody’s drawing power, that remains to be seen and will gt a chance to prove his PPV worth now that he is sitting at the top of the 135-pound mountain.
While Garbrandt has never ducked an opponent, and isn’t doing that with Dillashaw, he seems to enjoy picking on his former training partner and toying with his emotions when it comes to giving him a title fight. That’s because Cody immediately stated he’d prefer to give Cruz a rematch over fighting TJ. If not, then he’d like to take his talents up to Featherweight tochallenge Jose Aldo.
Nevertheless, Cody is open to taking on anyone the promotion want’s him to face next and would like nothing more than to beatdown “the cancer” who walked away from Team Alpha Male last year.
