Ronda Rousey won’t be fighting in New York, says Dana White
As much as the UFC wants megastars for the Madison Square Garden debut of the Octagon, they know they simply cannot push fighters to return quicker than they are capable of.
UFC president Dana White told ESPN recently that the former UFC female bantamweight champion will not return for UFC 205 this November.
“She’s definitely not fighting in New York,” White said. “I’m actually going to start building the New York card this week.”
White finished out his discussion on Rousey by saying “nothing yet” has been planned. No contracts have been signed. The UFC just recently announced a slew of cards to close out 2016 — the last one taking place on Dec. 30 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Rousey’s return isn’t set in stone nor has anything been offered or signed, but it appears there have been at least preliminary talks about her returning before the end of the year.
If those negotiations fall apart, Rousey would likely get pushed back until 2017 but it appears there’s at least hope that she will fight again before 2016 is over.
Rousey (12-1) has not fought since losing the belt to Holly Holm last November in Australia. The 29-year-old underwent a minor knee surgery earlier this summer.
