Pat Symonds brace up for Lance Stroll’s mistakes

Pat Symonds f1 news

F1 Update – Replacing Felipe Massa at Williams, technical boss Pat Symonds is expecting to deal with the mistakes rookie driver Lance Stroll will make.

Already completing a number of testing sessions with the Grove-based outfit, Stroll is said to be one of the best prepared rookies to ever enter the sport.

Symonds, though, understands the 18-year-old is bound to suffer a couple of unfortunate incidents, using the one at Monza as an example, where he flipped his car.

“Of course he’ll make mistakes and we’ll be repairing cars,” Symonds told Reuters.

“These things happen as part of the process. If you look at his Formula 3 career, in 2015 he was having quite a few accidents in that. The Monza one is just staggering.”

According to Symonds however, the Canadian is undeniably a talented driver.

“He hasn’t won that championship with anything other than a lot of skill and maturity. For a guy that young he’s driven really well in pretty well every condition,” he said.

“He’s raced well, he’s led at the front. He’s come through the field a bit, he’s driven well in the wet. He is the real deal.”
