Dan Henderson explains why he needs to walk away after UFC 2014

UFC News – Dan Henderson heads into his UFC 204 middleweight championship fight with Michael Bisping in a unique position. Win or lose, he fully intends to hang up his gloves for the final time when the fight is over.

It’s not surprising that at 46 years of age, Henderson would be ready to call it a career. He was a two-time Olympian in wrestling, and has been fighting professionally since 1997. Henderson has won a UFC tournament (at UFC 17), a Rings King of Kings tournament, championships in two different Pride FC weight classes, and the Strikeforce light heavyweight title.

One thing that has eluded him is a UFC divisional championship. He has that opportunity at UFC 204 on Oct. 8, 2016, in Manchester, England, when he steps in the cage with Bisping.

He insists, however, that even if he takes the title from the brash Brit, he won’t return to the Octagon as a competitor. It will be his final fight.

Henderson took some time with MMAWeekly.com executive editor Scott Peterson to sit down and talk in depth about his career and what has led him to his decision to retire, even while he is considered one of the most exciting and competitive fighters in the world.
