Tyron Woodley humiliated by onlookers
UFC News – Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Welterweight champion Tyron Woodley still can’t seem to gather much fan support ahead of his first-ever title defense against Stephen Thompson at this weekend’s (Sat., Nov. 12, 2016) UFC 205 pay-per-view (PPV) event in New York City.
During his open workout inside famed Madison Square Garden — site of this massive event — “Chosen One” attempted to gather some support from the local fans, inviting them to take part in a chant. The goal was to have them say, “We got your back” every time he asked, “Who’s got my back?” The result, however, was not what the 170-pound champion was hoping for, as most fans replied with “Wonderboy” instead.

Unfortunately, Woodley is no stranger to fan backlash, declaring during a recent pre-fight press conference that the constant boo birds didn’t bother him, and that whether they like it or not, he’s the 170-pound king. The origin of the lack of fan support stems from Woodley’s attempt to give Thompson the run-around, preferring to call for “big money” fights against Nick Diaz and Georges St-Pierre instead of green-lighting a fight against “Wonderboy.”
Heck, even UFC’s public relations team didn’t show Woodley love during their promotion of an undercard bout that featured Nate Marquardt, highlighting “The Great’s” knockout victory over “Chosen One” under the Strikeforce banner. Nevertheless, Woodley will look to stick to his own script by taking out Thompson — who was also shown more love by the oddsmakers– in the co-main event in hopes of holding on to his Welterweight strap.
