Manchester United confident in signing Antoine Griezmann
Soccer Update: Manchester United are growing increasingly confident of signing Atletico Madrid and France striker Antoine Griezmann, according to the Independent.
Their report suggests the 25-year-old is already well on his way to Manchester, with a squad number and pay packet already agreed.
However, any move would likely require United to match the €100 million buyout clause embedded in Griezmann’s Atletico contract.
Should such a move come to fruition, United would again break the world record for a transfer, barely a year after signing Paul Pogba for nearly £90 million.
The sheer prospect of linking up with Pogba is also suggested to be enticing for Griezmann.
Griezmann signed for Atletico from Real Sociedad in 2014 and has gone on to score 51 goals in 92 games, all the while netting 14 goals for France in 39 caps.
Meanwhile, the Independent‘s report also speculates United left-back Luke Shaw could be on the way out.
The £39 million signing is out of favour under Jose Mourinho, who is “frustrated” with the player’s lack of progress.
