Bruce Arena appointed as US Manager

Bruce Arena football news

Football News – Bruce Arena is set for a second stint as United States boss, having been appointed to succeed Jurgen Klinsmann.

Klinsmann was relieved of his position earlier this week after five years in charge, with his team struggling in the early stages of qualifying.

And Arena says he is grateful to have been appointed into the role for a second time.

“Any time you get the opportunity to coach the national team it’s an honor,” he said in the statement.

“I’m looking forward to working with a strong group of players that understand the challenge in front of them after the first two games of the Hex.

“Working as a team, I’m confident that we’ll take the right steps forward to qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.”

Previously Arena managed his home nation between 1998 and 2006, with a record of 71 wins, 30 losses and 29 draws, as well as leading the country to the quarter-finals of the 2002 World Cup.

The United States currently find themselves bottom of the CONCACAF World Cup qualifying group after two games.
