Henrikh Mkhitaryan will regret his move, says Borussia Dortmund’s GM

Football News – Borussia Dortmund’s general manager Hans-Joachim Watzke believes Henrikh Mkhitaryan may be regretting turning his back on the Bundesliga club in the summer.

Attacking midfielder Mkhitaryan has been only on the fringes of Manchester United’s team this season after leaving Dortmund, having signed a four-year deal with Jose Mourinho’s side in July.

And with only five first-team appearances to his name – due to both poor form and injury – Watzke has suggested he was wrong to make the move to the Premier League.

“Any intelligent player should think in advance about what kind of surroundings they are moving to,” Watzke told Kicker magazine.

“When you are playing in surroundings where things are working, like in Dortmund, then it is quite odd to give that up again, especially when things have finally started to work out for you after a long time settling in.”

Mkhitaryan was not the only player to leave Dortmund in the summer, but he is the one Watzke seems to miss the least.

“Of course you’ve first got to cope with the losses of two world class players like Mats Hummels and Ilkay Gundogan,” Watzke said, who admitted it would be his “lifelong dream” to lure Hummels back.
