Jurgen Klopp proud of Liverpool’s performance
Football Update: Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was “proud” of his team at Anfield on Tuesday night, after fighting to a 1-1 draw against Premier League leaders Chelsea.
The Reds went into the clash on a three-game losing streak, and on a run of four defeats in their last six in all competitions, but they fought hard and should’ve beaten the Blues.
David Luiz gave the away side a first half lead with a superb, dipping free-kick, while Georginio Wijnaldum equalised with a close-range header in the second period, but there were two excellent chances wasted by Roberto Firmino that he should’ve scored.
Klopp though was “proud” of his team after picking up a hard-fought point against the champions-elect.
“I’m not sure happy is the right word to say how I’m feeling, but I’m proud of the boys because they did outstanding things against a really good side,” Klopp told BT Sport post-match. “We did really well. The result we can’t change. We could have lost because it was a penalty.
“In the second half we caused them problems, we could have scored a second time or a third time. I’m happy we could give this sign and create this atmosphere. It was a good performance.”
