Klopp impressed with Daniel Sturridge
Football News – JURGEN KLOPP hailed Daniel Sturridge’s predatory powers as the England striker propelled Liverpool past Tottenham and into the EFL Cup quarter-finals.
While Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino complained that Reds debutant Trent Alexander-Arnold should have been sent off for a full-blooded challenge on Ben Davies, Klopp focused on Sturridge’s brace in the 2-1 win, saying: “He is a finisher.”
Sturridge has found himself shunted down the pecking order at Anfield this season, but took the chance to offer a reminder of his talent with goals in each half.
“That is his strength,” said Klopp, who made 11 changes to the team that beat West Brom on Saturday.
“He is a finisher, a really good striker and I was never in doubt about him even when he didn’t score.
“Daniel scored wonderful goals for us and they were really important.”
Tottenham halved the deficit when Vincent Janssen dispatched a 76th-minute penalty but Pochettino was irked by the behaviour of Klopp and the Liverpool bench in the closing stages.
“Alexander-Arnold should have been sent off for the big tackle on Ben Davies,” said Pochettino.
“It was a bit strange at the end of the game when their whole bench started to complain about us, about some normal fouls. Maybe they were a bit lucky not to finish with 10 men.”
