Paul Merson predicts Leicester City v Liverpool outcome

Paul Merson football update

Football Update: The former Arsenal midfielder believes Liverpool will have too much for Leicester City on Monday night.

Paul Merson is confident that Liverpool can capitalise on Leicester City’s lack of confidence when Jurgen Klopp’s side make the trip to the defending champions on Monday night.

The Liverpool manager took his squad away on a warm-weather training camp in Malaga as Klopp’s squad looked to recover from a 2-0 win against top-four rivals Tottenham Hotspur last time out.

The Reds managed to end their winless start to 2017 in the Premier League thanks to Sadio Mane’s first-half goals against Spurs at Anfield.

Leicester, meanwhile, lost 2-1 to La Liga outfit Sevilla in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 clash in Spain on Wednesday night.

Speaking to Sky Sports about Liverpool’s trip to the King Power Stadium on Monday night, ex-Arsenal midfielder Merson issued his backing for Klopp’s side to beat Leicester.

“I thought Leicester had a good result during the week in the Champions League, to come away from Sevilla with a 2-1 score was decent, so fair play to them and they are in the tie but it was still a loss. Liverpool need to win and Leicester are suffering from a lack of confidence,” Merson said.

“Liverpool are quite open and will travel to the King Power and have a go. They will highlight this game and draws are not good really so they will be going forward, leave themselves open and I expect Leicester to score.”

Liverpool are in fifth place in the Premier League table and 10 points behind current leaders Chelsea.

Leicester, on the other hand, are in 17th place and a point above the relegation zone.
