Rio Ferdinand speaks up about John Terry’s lack of play time
Football News: Rio Ferdinand has claimed that deep down, John Terry will be extremely frustrated by his lack of playing time at Chelsea this season.
The Chelsea captain has been handed a watching brief for most of the season following Antonio Conte’s appointment as the club’s new manager back in the summer.
Terry has only made five Premier League appearances for Chelsea so far this season and has played just 366 minutes in the top flight for the Blues.
Chelsea have firmly established themselves as the favourites to win the Premier League title this season under new boss Conte.
But despite Terry having conducted himself in a professional manner following his lack of playing time, Ferdinand feels that the Blues skipper will be extremely disappointed by his restricted first-team action.
Speaking to BT Sport on Tuesday night, Ferdinand said: “I know John. He’s a competitor. There are lot of similarities to when I finished my career at Man United.
“It’s embarrassing as a professional footballer because you’ve been playing all your life and you want to continue playing.
“It’s hard to really accept that you’re not really up to the standard any more. He’s been Mr Chelsea for many, many years.
“He’s got to say the right things but deep down his pride will be hurt a little bit.”
Chelsea are now gearing up for their crunch Premier League clash against Arsenal at Stamford Bridge on Saturday lunchtime.
