Football News – Yaya Toure has announced his retirement from international football.

The Manchester City midfielder has made 102 appearances for the Ivory Coast, scoring 19 goals.

The 33-year-old played an integral role in 2015 as the Ivory Coast won the Africa Cup of Nations for only the second time in their history.

Toure, who is out in the cold at Manchester City following Pep Guardiola’s arrival as manager, was expected to skipper the side in next year’s tournament.

But he has now decided to call time on his 12-year international career.

Toure wrote in a statement: “The fact that I am 33 now, the intensity of training and the multitude of games are not the reasons why I am making this decision.

“Football is everything to me and it gave me so much in my career that I no longer feel able to set myself new goals as a player with the Elephants of Ivory Coast. I would like to say solemnly that I am stopping!”

Toure’s announcement came as Guardiola announced that he will not play another game for City until he receives an apology from the player’s agent.
