Anthony Davis out due to nasty injuries
NBA Update: New Orleans Pelicans’ big man Anthony Davis left Monday’s game against the Indiana Pacers with both a right hip and left thumb injury, leaving him doubtful to return to the contest. Prior to exiting the game, he pitched in 16 points, three rebounds and three assists for New Orleans.
Davis entered the game leading the NBA in blocks per game at 2.53 and ranking second in the league in scoring at 29.3 per game. Despite his persistent injuries, he has missed only three contests outright while leading the Pelicans in most of the major statistical offensive categories.
Currently in the midst of his fifth NBA season, all of which have come in the bayou as a member of the Pelicans, Davis has become one of the premiere big men in the league. However, due to his oft-injured nature, the 23-year-old has seemingly yet to reach his potential.
Davis was originally selected by the Pelicans with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft out of Kentucky.
His scoring (29.3) and rebounding (12.3) totals are on pace to be single-season career-highs, which still leaves the Pelicans at just 16-25 entering play on Monday. However, the struggling team is just one game back of the eighth seed in the Western Conference, but has to battle alongside three other teams.
As it stands today, only seven teams in the entire Western Conference currently own winning records. Even so, the 18-25 Portland Trail Blazers own the final playoff spot in the conference.
